Authenticity is Important

Authenticity is an adjective.  It describes the genuine state of something or someone.  We place a high value on things that are deemed to be considered authentic.  Yet, in human relationships, it seems for some, that encountering authentic people is an attack on their false sense of self.  Therefore, they assume a defensive stance against what they know is genuine and true, so as to not reveal their lack of authenticity.  So why live as an authentic version of yourself, knowing that there will be others out there that will try to undermine your authenticity?  The answer is simple:  you live a life overflowing with meaningful and fulfilling experiences.  That alone, outweighs all the efforts put forth in trying to disprove your authenticity.

Authentically living is feeling life fearlessly.  All the good and the bad.  Is it easy?  It can be.  We make it harder for ourselves than it should be, and it isn't getting any easier.  We have so many things at our disposal to create feelings that are temporary:  the latest and greatest in consumer technology, smarter homes, cars that help us to drive better, virtual reality.  As time passes, that list grows.  But, how do these things help us to live authentic lives?  How do they help us to feel life?

There is no doubt that these advances in technology for us can be helpful and help us to free up time, so that we can "really live life".  However, advancement in technology is not exempt from negative impacts to living a full life.  All of the advances in technology have had the intention of making our lives easier, and for a lot of us it has.  It has helped us to reclaim time, so that we can do meaningful things with our lives.  There are some out there who have managed to use technology to allow them to find their authenticity and live it.

What I have noticed about authentic people, ones I know personally and ones I've read about, is that they all have a common theme:  unshakable values.  They live their values and a by-product of living their values is, the essence of authenticity.  They are uncompromising in what they hold true in their hearts and it becomes effortless to live those values.  They aren't worrying about what everyone else would like for them to say or do.  They have found that voice within themselves that is their north star, offering them guidance in the world.  They laugh louder, smile radiantly, weep bitterly, and understand the necessity of tempering anger.  Even feeling pain, anger, and sorrow, at magnified levels because of their authenticity, they manage to emerge unbroken still holding on to their values, still following their north star.

Each day I strive to live as authentically as God created me to be.  At my core, I know who I am and that I have a purpose in life.  How authentically are you living?  Is there one thing that you could do today to enrich your authenticity?
